Jewell Histories - Home Page Jewell Histories publishing is the site of Roger Jewell and Mary Jewell. We specialize in publishing unusual histories and various artworks. At this time we have three books available in print the last is a historical novel set in Westchester County, New York, during the Revolutionary War. Mary has illustrated two books and has produced numerous pieces of art which are available through this site and in several galleries in our area. Staff; Roger L. Jewell, Author/Publisher Roger L. Jewell was born and raised in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Forest Management. He worked for most of his career with the United States Forest Service (USFS). From 1968 to 1974 he was the District Ranger for the Hayward District of the Chequamegon National Forest. In 1982-1994 he was the District Ranger for The Hiawatha National Forest at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Since retiring from the USFS in 1994 he has been researching and writing. His first book, Ancient Mines of Kitchi-Gummi was published in 2000. He received the Anomalist Award for one of the best books in 2000 from Anomalist Magazine reviewer, Patrick Huyghe. The second edition sold 1000 copies and the third edition is still available, Dec. 2009. His second book, Riding The Wild Orb, was published in December 2001 and is still available here. Roger has just completed a historical novel called, The Sawmill River Valley War. It is the story of Dutch Tenant Farmers in Westchester county New York who were caught between the British lines in New York City and the American lines at Peekskill and Fishkill NY. It is now available and can be ordered here. Staff; Mary Elizabeth Jewell, Artist Mary has a BA in Art & a minor in International Studies. She has been doing art work, murals, etc. for many years. She worked and lived in the Eastern Bloc Countries of Europe where she used her artistic skills in teaching and studying. She has taught English in Bulgaria and has a working knowledge of the language. Her dream is to use her talents to create avenues of expression for the orphans, refugees, and poor children of the area. She feels that art will make it easier to bridge the gap between the English speaking world and the countries of the former Soviet Union. Her first illustrated children's book was published in 2008. The title is, Alexander Mack, A Man Who Rippled the Water. This book has over 50 illustrations in oil. She also illustrated The Sawmill River Valley War in 2009. She did the cover in Oil on Clay Board, and 15 internal drawings in graphite on clay board. The cover is shown above.
